Fishermen's Friends

A bright day with sunshine, changing late afternoon with heavy showers.

Alan continued tidying and weeding whilst I had indoor jobs to do, however, we had our sandwich lunch on the veranda for the first time.    Really lovely in the warmth.

This evening we dodged the rain showers and walked to the local Community Hall, where Filey Fishermens Choir was holding a sing-along.   The Hall was laid out with tables and chairs set with jugs of water and song sheets.   When we arrived it was quite full and so managed to snag a table at the rear.   A lady who came on her own sat with us.    We unfortunately did not know many of the songs but Alan soon picked them up and joined in.

The choir was there to promote itself and as a recruitment drive to encourage new members, as is the case with a lot of choirs, few new members are coming forward.   It was formed in 1823 to try and stop the bawdy singing and general rowdiness in Filey!   I wonder if that worked!!!

They were amused that we had come from Spain on holiday once they found out!

An excellent evening with tea and biscuits after - no charge, just a donation.

We walked back through the village with the lady we met and she was giving us some suggestions of places to visit in the local area.
