Tonight's concert, in Lagrasse: oddly, if you asked the altos how it went, they would tell you it was brilliant, whereas according to the sopranos it was a catastrophe. But this was because all the mistakes this evening issued from them. Including a moment where the rest of us got to the end of the Benedictus before they did, so we had to improvise to cover up the gap while we waited for them.

This is the moment of relaxation when we got to the encore, a lovely modern arrangement of a 15th-century lullaby. Every time we sing this I find it more beautiful, to the point where I almost can't sing. And our young soloist Julia has such a lovely voice that she stuns the audience into silence. Photos by S; I gave him both my cameras plus instructions.

Earlier S picked B up from Narbonne and we had lunch at our local restaurant, excellent as usual (and also deserted as usual; we were the only customers) so that B could come to the concert with us. It was good to see her; she'd been to Japan since the last time we saw her, so there was lots to catch up on.
