Airplane crash- Spring Mountain Nevada

Took this picture at Spring Mountain, next the Mt. Charleston in Nevada. This was the propeller from the airplane that crashed into the mountain during the cold war. On board were 14 passengers who were military and scientists who were secretly working on the U2 Aircraft project in Area  51. The crash and the facts surrounding it were kept secret from the public and their families for over 40 years. In 2015, a monument to remember the lives lost during the cold war was erected just feet from where this photo was taken. It was a surreal feeling to touch the propeller knowing that 14 lives were lost just inches from this twisted metal and to think of what those families must have gone through not knowing how their loved ones met their fate.  Having the photo in monochrome just felt right...
