Mae Hong Son Loop (again) Day 3

We extended our stay in Mae Sariang and went on a day trip, leaving our stuff at our hotel. First we tried going for a walk in Salawin National Park but the dry season had really taken its toll on the forest and the heat was unbearable so we turned around and went back on our bike.

We drove to Salawin River, which took us on mostly unsealed roads but the scenery made the journey worth it. When we arrived, we found a few little shops along the riverside, along with some boats offering trips for quite a lot of money. The border with Myanmar (Burma) runs along the middle of the river so everything on the other side was another country which is kind of a strange idea really. We debated getting a boat and decided we should while we were there. We had half an hour and spent most of the time on the other side of the river, meaning we were technically in Myanmar.

Afterwards we drove to a tiny village, made some local friends and played with the goats and puppies. This lovely lady put thanaka on Tanja's face.
