New Green

Birch, ash, and alder were all in bud until a couple of days ago. Now those buds have opened up into new leaves. The green of these new leaves is really bright, almost luminous. It seems to be a concentrated green and maybe it is because these leaves are very small, in Swedish they are known as "mouse ears". Over the next few days they will grow to full size so maybe the small leaves contain all the chlorophyll for the full size leaf!
These particular "mouse ears" are on a birch tree on the edge of our garden.
The sun has shone out of a blue sky all day and the day has been productive but allowed time to sit quietly now and again.
In all this beauty and calm I have the terrible events in Manchester lurking in the back of my mind all day - peaceful and not so peaceful.
