From tiny acorns...

One of the interesting things we saw at the Irn Bru factory on Saturday was how the bottles are delivered to the plant. The small test-tube-like object on the lower left is actually a 500ml bottle (just like the one above it) as it arrives at the plant. It is heated to 110centigrade then blown with air compressed to 25bar (25 times normal atmospheric pressure) in a mould to make the bottle, which is then cooled, filled and capped immediately.

It seems like a pretty efficient way of transporting and delivering bottles, which would otherwise be rather bulky It also means that the same bottle blanks can be used to make many different shapes of bottle for different drinks!

The blanks for 2 litre bottles aren't all that much bigger...
