Almshouses

These almshouses date back to 1417-18 and adjoin the grammar school attended by William Shakespeare. Accounts survive of payments for the costs of the building, including 26s 8d for timber & carpenter and 7 cartloads of stone at 3d a load. Today they are a Grade I listed building.
