Yellow Flag

Today's the day ....................... to unfurl

I love it when we get to this time of year and the flag irises in the pond start to open.  They are such a joyous yellow - and with a flower so exotic-looking that you think they can't possibly be a native species.  As far as I know, they are though.  You'll find them growing in the remotest Scottish lochan - and in the pond in our front garden - with equal ease.

The other flag in our front garden at present is that of Italy.  It's fully unfurled and has been for the past couple of weeks while we watch the Giro d'Italia  cycling race.  Of course, it's not quite the same now that our hero Geraint Thomas has had to withdraw because of injury - sustained in a crash with a police motorbike?!  But we still enjoy our daily dose of cycling endurance in the fabulous Italian countryside.

My sister Marj is no doubt watching it too - so this one's for her ...................
