Painting Class

Source photo, my work in progress, and the limited palette we are using. I'm in a three day acrylic painting class, with artist Wayne Jiang, learning a technique of using thin washes to build color and texture. It was really fun to see this image take shape, and there will be even more fun tomorrow to fine tune the painting. The instructor kept pushing me to put darker and darker washes over what I was seeing as light areas. Value, not color, is our mantra. Interestingly, I get more of what he meant as I look at this photo.
