Sardines

We came to the Algarve in 2004, and had a delicious plate of sardines in a little restaurant/shack by the side of the river. Today we are back again, with Mrs jml's sister and brother-in-law and I wanted to find the same place again. Eventually we did so, but nothing is the same.

The riverside shacks have gone, but after a long search (in blazing heat), we found ourselves back in the right area. Nearby was a much more upmarket establishment and we decided to have our lunch here. The principal item on the menu was still sardines, so we were perfectly happy to go ahead.

I spotted a tiled mural which seemed to show the old sheds, and Mrs jml we sure that the boss was the same person who served us all those years ago. Seems to be an obvious story of out with the old and in with the new.

I spoke to the owner, and he confirmed that the mural showed his old premises. However, he also said that he was closed in 2001, and did not open his new restaurant until 2004. So ... Where did we eat on our previous holiday, and who served us?

(The sardines were still delicious, by the way!)
