Crazy About Birds

Young Orchard Oriole

I heard this bird singing ~ a very nice song ~ and went out with my camera to see if I could find him. I was delighted that I managed to spot him way up at the top of one of our big maple trees, and then actually managed to get a photo of him. Then I had to send the photo to my birding guru because I couldn't figure out what it was. She says it's a second year male orchard oriole. When he's fully adult he'll be a dark rusty orange color with a black head and tail, and partially black wings. He's been here for a couple of weeks ~ the last time I spotted him I didn't have my camera on me ~ so I hope that means he might decide this is to be his breeding ground! Fingers crossed!
