Contentment road

I think this photo may sum up what I dwell fondly on when I think of holidays in Crete over the past 30 -some years. This the road from our house down to the village and the beach, with the old coastal main road crossing its foot.

The Orthodox Church with its bells (and a hall or something underneath); a few cars in various states of dilapidation, telegraph poles ditto; a garden growing tomatoes on the right. There are several skinny cats to greet, and a very old man on a chair to wave gravely to.

And above it all, the blue, blue sky. Did I mention that I love Crete?
