Ananas and pine cones

Rarely if ever have I come across a word in my recall that many languages with varying origins share the same meaning of.

Chai or cha, the word for tea in some languages comes to mind but still there are exceptions.

Pineapple to many English speaking Blippers is ananas to speakers of dozens of other languages scattered around Asia, Persia, Europe and the Americas. By that I mean ananas was a word originating from the Tupi language which the European invaders of the Americas brought back along with them along with the fruit.

Ananas is pronounced and/or spelt the same way in Hindi, Spanish, Armenian, Danish, Georgian, Arabic, Dutch, German, Icelandic, Italian, French, Norwegian, Hebrew, Persian, Polish, Turkish Russian, Portuguese , Greek, Macedonian, Romanian and possibly even more languages.

The English apparently had an existing word for pine cones which was pineapple and decided to call the newly arrived exotic fruit the same even though aside from a few spikes, the two are worlds apart.
