Breakfast with the Prescotts

Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.

I remember falling asleep in the dark tent, loud music from the DJ blaring. It was still going at 3:30 when I woke up, but now it's Dave & Stan's music. I join the crew around the fire - Giles, Ione, Leila, Fred, Justin, Ewan, Ang and more. We talk as night fades and the sun rises. It's a beautiful dawn.

Claire awakes. We tidy up bottles, cans, glasses. We eat cake and drink tea. Eventually Tony and Leila surface. They produce croissants, rolls, bacon, eggs, coffee. The day is roasting and we are all wilting. There is no ice.

We drive back cross country, up the M74, through Moffat. More cake at Boron & Theresa's - with a prophylactic beer, too. Chilled.

And then home. Still no ice. Will is here with Angus. I pass out, almost oblivious.
