Muckross Lake

For our last full day in Ireland we decided to spend most of it near Killarney before heading for a campsite in Dublin. It started clear and sunny, but soon clouded in so we decided to go to Muckross House, and walk around Muckross Lake. Parking is free at the house but it gets very busy as it’s the place to go near Killarney. However, most people don’t walk far and we really didn’t see many people as we walked anti-clockwise around the lake. It’s really part of the much larger Lough Leane, but there is a rocky rib (limestone) that cuts across the southern part of the lough so there is a good walk to be had. The lake was really low so there were larger beaches and lots of caves to explore by the shore. The blip shows a ‘stack’ offshore.
