Chequered Skipper

Not  a common butterfly but loads of them around today.

I made a decision late last night to go out and do this butterfly survey. The forecast had been showing overcast conditions but suddenly was showing sun. I am glad I decided to go as it was perfect weather for it. Pretty hot at times as I was sheltered from the wind.

Other butterflies recorded include Green hairstreak, Small pearl bordered Fritillary, Green Veined White along with the moths Yellow shell, Brown Silver lines and Silver Y.

It is difficult to survey butterflies as the weather conditions must be just right and the timing within the short window that the butterflies are flying adults. Even worse when the site involves a lot of travel and other organisation. However one good day generated lots of records for the database so all is good.
