By Himself

We stayed overnight in Allihies and then Herself dropped me off in Castletownbere to walk 9 miles of the Beara Way back to Allihies. I could have done it backwards but, as herself said, 'it doesn't seem right', and anyway, one tends to fall over more easily that way. :)
An easier route than yesterday's 'one more valley' adventure, along tracks, mountain contours, soggy with sphagnum and down from a windy pass through the Allihies copper mines and pump-houses, one of which has had its tall chimney partially restored. Allihies is now a quiet, brightly coloured village but must, at one time, been a busy and noisy place of industry and even its clean sandy beach was originally formed from limestone deposits washed down from the mines.
Sketch is of the stone circle near the start of the route. I sketched it on-site but re-worked this version at home where we now are, pleasantly exhausted.

Extra is the long trail winding down towards the Kerry coast - but of course, it then went back up over the ridge on the left.
