Highland Wildlife Park

A perfect day for a visit to Kincraig, near Aviemore and the Highland Wildlife Park.  Wall to wall sunshine all day which was great for us, but not so good for some of the animals who prefer it cooler e.g. the Polar Bears, Arctic Fox, Snow Monkeys etc.  The strong sunlight and deep shadows made for difficult photography conditions too, but I managed to take over 100 pictures anyway:-)

The main one is the Amur Tiger (previously known as the Siberian Tiger) who was happy to lie in the sun.  Extras include Walker, one of the two male polar bears, a stately Vicuna (like an alpaca), the Snow Leopard with his enormous long tail and a very new baby red deer which managed to cause a traffic jam when people spotted it!

We enjoyed our lunch in one of the cafés in the Park, then watched several of the animals being fed theirs!  This was followed by a drive round the Main Reserve (twice!) and a chance to see most of the animals resident here.  A really enjoyable visit.

As we were so close (i.e. 6 miles!) from that fantastic coffee shop at Inshriach Garden that we went to last week, it would have been rude not to make a detour to try another of their delectable cakes, so we did!

We finished off the day with fish & chips from Dunkeld on the way home and sat by the River Tay to eat them.  It was still warm enough at 7 pm not to need a jacket!  More days like this please.
