Art historians continue to argue about the meaning of this iconic photograph.

Some say that it is merely a hommage to Annie Leibowitz and her portrayal of Whoopi Goldberg.

Others refer to the mulch that appe ars to surround the bath and claim that the picture symbolises fertility and birth. For them Alan is surrounded by a multi-coloured amniotic fluid that suggests the myriad possibilities of life itself.

However, in the last few days a more prosaic explanation has emerged. A close look at the bath's contents shows that they are M&M's. M is the Roman symbol for one thousand and it is Alan woodley's 1000th Blip!
