Witches' knickers

is slang for the pieces of plastic,  often agricultural silage wrap, that you see snagged on trees, bushes and fences in the countryside Some say the name was coined in Ireland but there's a Scottish version  too, witches' britches,  and in South Africa they call it the national flower.
