Jam today!

A regular meet up to walk with a friend has had to be postponed at the moment due to Alex's accident keeping me indoors. So, as we'd missed our summer jam-making - partly due to the weather and partly due to my being busy the only week of the summer when we were both at home, we decided to take advantage of the nectarines being on special offer at the moment. £1 a punnet - 7 punnets and we made 9 jars of jam. Used pectin sugar and it all worked really well. Mmm.

Apricots were next up. The recipe we were following suggested caster sugar, which meant it took longer boiling to get the set, but it looked glorious in colour. In the meantime, I made a quick batch of lemon curd following Nigel Slater's recipe. It's a little too "set" for my liking, but tastes really tart, so was delicious on the pancakes which Alex made. We made a double batch as his friends were coming to visit after school where they'd been playing rugby.

Great to be filling the store cupboard. Love autumn tasks like this.
