15's too fast

Today's music session (first of the year, obviously, and back again after a break last week) was in Rathgar, which is across the city. I was out and about in time enough to take a little detour and pop out to the Bull Wall at Dollymount with the idea of finding a blip. As it happened, the lights which normally operate on a one-direction-first-and-then-the-other system were out of order, stuck at red both ways. It took the guy ahead of me a long time to realise this. While waiting behind him I noticed that someone had taken a notion to change the speed limit sign. There's been a lot of nonsense happening with speed limits since we switched from mph to km/h. It seems as if the people in charge of such things in our local authorities only see the number and fail to equate it with reality. This bridge was notoriously the first instance where the sign originally erected had to be replaced because of its stupidity. The powers that be decided to slap a 5 km/h limit on the bridge, but later changed this to 15. Someone apparently still thinks 15 is too much, and has painted out the '1' on this end of the bridge.

Anyway, enough of that. I won't say anything about the ridiculous decision to reduce the speed limit on the M50 from 120 to 100 km/h even after spending billions of euro on upgrading it, or about the apparently random way in which limits increase and decrease without apparent rhyme or reason. I won't say anything about that. I'll move on to the really enjoyable music session we had today, to our perfect host who spoiled us with more biscuits and cake than we could possibly handle, to the good chat we had comparing notes about our various Christmas experiences. It was good to be back in the old routine. I continued in the musical mould when I got home, downloading far more than I should have, and listening to far too much.
