Strawberry Fair.

A local festival of music, entertainment, arts and crafts plus lots of various food stalls, held in Cambridge on Midsummer Common, the first Saturday in June since 1974. Free to attend and run by volunteers with no sponsors. These days it is fenced in and carefully monitored as in the past it became quite unruly by the evening. The fair was started by some Cambridge students as an alternative to the college May Balls, which don't include the public, unless as a guest, which I was, at Trinity Ball some years ago. As Strawberry Fair began in the days of Monty Python, the event took on that weird surrealism, which has never left the event. This year the theme is Fairy Tales, last year was Wildlife and many dress up in costume. I used to go with the older grandchildren, and we always dressed up. Today, I walked through quite early and people were just beginning to arrive. This looked quite a colourful stall and a few bought hats as it was so warm today. I watched the buskers in the entertainment tent but didn't have time to stay long as I have visitors tomorrow and needed shopping.
