Chicago River

It was back to reality today - after my wonderful Royal day out yesterday!  I flew off to Chicago this afternoon and we landed quite a bit early.

It was a beautiful evening in the city so after getting settled into my hotel room I went out for a long walk along the Chicago River. The whole river area has been cleaned up and developed in Chicago and the Chicago 'Riverwalk' area is now a pleasant place to walk, cycle, people watch, dog watch and boat watch. There are numerous boat tours and a water taxi and you can even hire kayaks from 'Urban Kayak'. Several places to eat and drink, some permanent and some set up for the summer season, provide options for dinner and refreshment - and more people watching!

In the left-hand picture you can see a view of the Chicago River and beyond that Navy Pier and Lake Michigan. Across the river the water cannon shoots water across the river for 10 minutes. This happens every hour on the hour most of the day during the warmer months.
