Celebrating the mines

Coffee stop with my boss at the university café.

Learned today that the Palatine Centre was built on top of what used to be Elvet Colliery and that three disused mineshafts had to be filled & 'capped'. This metal sculpture* in the bustling international university coffee shop celebrates Durham's mining heritage. (*Peter Sales 2012)

Pouring down today!
