Everyday I Write The Book

What's in a name?

A few years ago a brewery took over this pub and renamed it The Moorhen, which caused an outcry. As it stood in the corner of the village green by the joining of two roads, the Parish Council renamed the spot White Hart Corner and erected a very large and obvious sign to that effect. This more or less stuck two fingers up at the new pub name, which had usurped the tavern's 300 year old original place in the the local community's nomenclature.

It wasn't long before the brewery gave in and the pub was called The White Hart again, just as it had been since the 17th Century.

Anyway we had a fairly calm day at work for a change, and TSM and I took our good mood down the pub after work for a drink and a bite to eat, not least in celebration of the fact that I seem to be a lot better. So here's to the pub on a Friday night - nothing quite like it.
