Tramcar in Tampere Central Square

The construction of the Tampere tramway has started and the city of Tampere celebrated it today. Helsinki will get a new tramcar (which is manufactured in Kainuu, in Northern Finland) and on way to Helsinki the tramcar was parked to Tampere. It attracted lots of people to see and test it, and artist Jukka Poika entertained crowd in sunny evening.

The first tram line will run in 2021 between Pyynikintori, Hervanta and Tampere University Hospital. During the daytime, the trams will run at 7.5 minute intervals. The trams can reach a top speed of 70 km per hour, with an average speed of 22 km per hour. The capacity of one 37 m tramcar is 240 passengers which is almost three times more than a conventional bus or about 185 cars.
