Wide Angle Wednesday . . .e is for elevation

Today dawned clear and if I had been up with the dawn I'm sure there would have been opportunities for a wide angle of the snow capped Southern Alps.  Instead we drove to Dyers Pass and the Sign of the Kiwi cafe for a look over the Canterbury Plains towards the alps.  Of course it was sun and glare at that time of the day.  You can see a peak at them from around the side of the building in the extra.  The cafe is on the road between Christchurch and Governors Bay.  It was built in 1916 - 1917 as a staging post, tearoom and guest house.  It is a category 1 heritage building.  It closed after the earthquake in 2011 and re opened in January this year.  It is within the burned area but fortunately not damaged by the February Port Hills fires.  The elevation is 339m/1113ft
