Arbutus unedo

I believe this is called a strawberry tree fruit.  I walked out of U3A this morning and noticed these richly coloured "berries" on an evergreen bush.  I had never noticed them before.  They are quite "squishy" inside, but I was not game to taste it. The fruit is about 2 inches in diameter and ranges from golden orange to this intense rich red. I believe they are of Mediterranean origin.
