Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Back to Nature

Culterty House was once one of the finest residences in Newburgh. Latterly it was owned by the University of Aberdeen. Sadly the house became surplus to the University's requirements and, much to the shame of the University, it is now boarded up, vandalised and rapidly deteriorating.
The only good to have come from this deplorable state of affairs is that the abandoned gardens are rapidly reverting to nature and the former lawns are full of wild flowers including fox and cubs and Northern marsh orchids.

The 'extra' provides a better view of one of the orchids.
