Cloud Inversion

The cloud inversion hung around all morning, then pleased to say that it cleared this afternoon, so it has been nice and sunny.

I took this photo this morning at Bremner Bay, just as the clouds were burning off.  I like the effect of the clouds and mountains reflected in the still water.  I had to walk out a fair way before I got to the lake edge.

I went for a walk by the lake this afternoon, then a nice cuppa with friends.  Another Friday, so another weekend.  I hope yours is a good one.

Blip No. 1928

Year 1928 : NZ news

Tour de France  :  A New Zealander, Harry Watson was part of the first English speaking team to take on the Tour de France.  He and his 3 team mates from Australia were among the 162 riders who started the race.  Only 41 riders finished the race, Harry being one of them, coming in at 28th.  They rode on steel bikes, with no gears and marginal brakes.  There is a new documentary out called "Le Ride', which is about attempting to recreate the original race.  Not sure if it is a world wide film or just for NZ audiences.

The 1928 Olympic Games were held in Amsterdam, with 10 competitors travelling by ship from NZ.  To while away the many hours at sea, and to keep fit, the javelin thrower practised by hurling potatoes into the ocean!!  A boxer won our first ever Olympic gold medal.  The black singlet and silver fern were firmly entrenched as the insignia of the NZ athletes.

Estimated population 1,467,400, an increase of 17,000.

The first attempted flight from Australia to NZ, but after 12 hours the radio signals ceased and the plane was never heard of again.

Phar Lap was sold to a Sydney based trainer.  Listed from Lot 41, was registered under the name Phar Lap, probably means 'lightning' in the Siamese or Thai language.
