The Darkling

We've been seeing hummingbirds in the yard again, and I am happy to sit in my lawn chair in the shade and simply watch, with my camera in hand. There were at least two males chasing each other around on this morning, and then this little fella came back for a drink. I think of him as The Darkling because his feathers are very dark at the edges; when he flies, he is a tiny blur of speedy darkness on the wing.

In other yard news, the Bunzinis continue to put on their bunny shows several times each day. My husband mowed the grass on this afternoon, and he left two big patches of grass unmowed - of course, because the rabbits enjoy hiding in the tall grass.

He is also frisbee training the rabbits, or at least this one rabbit, Genie Bunzini. He slices up carrots and puts them on a blue frisbee, and Genie is starting to understand that blue frisbee = nommy good snacks! In the extras, you may see a picture of her checking the frisbee after her meal to see if there might be any bunny treats left. :-)

The soundtrack for this blip is for my little friend The Darkling whose photo is above. Of course, the song for the day must include a reference to darkness, so here are the Boss and Crew, with Darkness on the Edge of Town. This performance is from 1995, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Enjoy!
