Possibility

The ideas which had seemed so fresh and exciting the previous evening had, during the night, grown old.

But, in the street outside, the shopkeepers were sweeping the pavements and unrolling their awnings and a group of students walked past, laughing at something that one of them had said or at nothing at all or simply as an overflowing of all of the possibilities that bubbled up inside them - the result of the chemical reaction of being young and alive on this particular Summer's morning.

I turned to a fresh sheet of paper.
