Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Gull and bling

A little while ago I blipped a greater black backed gull sporting a numbered colour ring. I have since learned that it had been ringed as a fledgling on the Isle of May. The Isle of May is located to the south of here, in the outer Firth of Forth, approximately 8 km off the coast of mainland Scotland.

Today we had a visitor from another colour ringed gull, this time of the black-headed kind. The photograph taken through a bedroom window shows the gull on our conservatory roof. The bling that he/she is carrying seems to have  gone to its head; I have never seen a more belligerent, aggressive gull!
