Win some

When I was Mayor ,last time, I found out that our beloved County Council had decided that they would no longer plant any daffadill bulbs that autumn. That was an unacceptable move but they had attempted to  keep it quiet until after the planting season. I did a deal with the council that meant the Town Council bought the bulbs but PCC planted them. I also organised a public meeting that facilitated the establishment of the Greening Fishguard group. This group has gone from strength to strength and now control most of the planting through out the town. I know some people still believe PCC should still be planting the beds but when you see the efforts put in by our volunteers Fishguard is so much better planted than before. Now another part off the plan has fallen into place. The Town Team  agreed to fund the purchase of a series of large metal planters, which are big enogth to hold fruit trees, are being delivered. They are being  built by our local blacksmith and should last 20  years at least, New benches are also being supplied and with all this investment of money and community involvement the group has now entered the Wales in Bloom competition for the first time.  This for me is a major success story, the town is looking so much better than when PCC was in charge of the planting and our enthusiastic volunteers have big ideas to improve things year on year. These days when you win one you should shout about it and I am so proud of everything this group has achieved in such a short time.
