Mynydd Llangatwg

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
Marcel Proust

QS project delivered by 9.15 am, out for a walk from 9.30am with P and A - my sort of day.  Heading up through Llangttock we soon reached Craig y Cilau, a national nature reserve on the north side of Mynydd LLangatwg under the dramatic Limestone escarpment.

Quite a change in scenery from the pastoral lowlands around home, it was like stepping out of the Urban world and into a place that the "modern" world was passing by, sort of Conan Doyles "Lost World" - but without dinosaurs.  Plenty of wildlife though, from the Redstart (haven't seen one for about 30 years) to the Red Kite prospecting overhead.  As we were dragging ourselves uphill along the edge of the woodland we were startled by the sudden appearance of a hare on the path, which soon disappeared on seeing us, back into the bracken.  A did his professor Challenger bit and gave us the benefit of his botanical knowledge, amongst other subjects.  Then P discovered the surprising warmth of stuffing his hands into the soggy Sphagnum Moss; ah, Bellamy would have been proud of him.

And of course to cap it off we made a foray into Crickhowell, to "Debs Kitchen" for lunch.  Lovely food and a table outside in the sunshine rounded off the day perfectly.  Now time for a doze.
