Wanderings & Witterings

On Saturday evening the Scotland football team (or, in light of my previous post, the Men's team) played their English counterparts in a World Cup Qualifying match. This photo was taken prior to kick-off and just before the national anthems.

Given that England had won the previous fixture at Wembley 3-0 hopes were not high among the Scotland support.

Apart from brief flurries of possession and a few chances by the home side, most of the game was played with England in control of the ball and so it was no great surprise (but deep disappointment) that they scored. However, out of the blue (no pun intended, honest!) Scotland scored two goals in the last five minutes of play and it looked like a famous victory was on the cards. However, deep into stoppage time, England scored an equaliser and deflation set in.

The atmosphere before and throughout the game was fantastic and, given what occurred in the last ten minutes of actual play, I think everyone felt they had been through an emotional wringer by the end.
I certainly did.
