Last-minute pitch

This was our pitch at Paul's campsite on Lochboisdale, South Uist, on the first night of our cycling adventure. We arrived in Glasgow this morning on the sleeper and caught the train to Oban. We didn't decide on where to go until we reached the town and sussed out when the ferries were leaving. The weather also concerned us - a huge rain front was looming on the mainland, but it seemed the further west we could go, the better the weather would be. This pointed to the Outer Hebrides - South Uist and Barra at least. Although Mull was calling us.

We kitted ourselves with rather fetching luminous capes that proved their worth a good few times over the next week, even though we looked ridiculous (see blip for 26 June). Then we killed time with amazing scallops from the shack on Oban pier - yum.

The crossing to South Uist took six hours and the campsite was right across the bay so was a bit of a cycle from the ferry. The sun was setting as we navigated our way around the sparse homesteads. The setting was glorious - quite wild, some mountains, low vegetation and water lilies in the loch.
