Duart Castle, Mull

So as it was still raining we went to Duart Castle, which in our 9 years of visiting Mull, we have never seen.
I was pleasantly surprised, as it is very much a family home still - the seat of the Clan Maclean. The Clan gathering is next week, with people attending from all over the world.
This screen, which had been decorated with cards and photos by the family, caught my eye because it was quirky and personal.
Lots of gruesome stories connected with the castle including the laird who killed all of his wife's relatives at the wedding celebrations and the one whose wife didn't produce heirs so he dumped her on a distant rock at sea ( luckily she was rescued).

Whilst we braved the rain on the outside of the battlements, the skirl of the pipes suddenly drifted up from a yacht moored a little way off shore.A lovely, haunting sound.

The extras include the Hall which was used in the film 'I know where I am Going' and a beautiful dress from the 17th century.
