Xth Muse.

A solitary herm in the secluded glade, this classical bust is one of the works found in Jupiter Artland, a sculpture park where works by leading contemporary artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Jim Lambie, Charles Jencks and Cornelia Parker can be found hidden in the arcadian woodland of West Lothian.

The late Iain Hamilton Fidlay's sculpture represents Sappho, regarded in her time of one of the greatest lyric poets; an epigram ascribed to Plato reads:

"Some say the Muses are nine: how careless!
Look, there's Sappho too, from Lesbos, the tenth. "
