Musettes and Pelotons

To Dartmouth today for the Tour of Britain cycle race, stage 7, Barnstaple to Dartmouth.

It was a beautiful day and the local hero, Devon based Jonathan Tiernan Locke came 7th, but retained the Gold jersey. He would have done a lot better if he hadn't stopped for a cream tea. Bradley Wiggins had to drop out but there were still plenty of artificial sideburns on show as cycling fever gripped the naval town.

The 'shop' was very busy and bonk bags, also known as feed bags or musettes were selling well. At one time every self-respecting cycling club offered members a printed 'bonk bag' or musette so that riders could proclaim their fellowship while jauntily carrying a few essentials; a copy of Cycling Weekly perhaps, a few spare tubes and a change of shoes for the clubroom.
