Wanderings & Witterings

Gate

On Tuesday I led a walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers along part of the 'River Carron Loop' walk. Our route - shortened because of the need to co-ordinate with bus times back to Cumbernauld - took us from Camelon to the site of the former Carron Iron Works and then back along the other side of the river back to Camelon.

At around the mid-point of our walk, we passed the magnificent Grahamston Gate (pictured), built by the Grahamston Iron Works in Falkirk for the Edinburgh International Exhibition of 1886. It then stood at the entrance to the Grahamston works for 115 years and was reinstated to its present location on 2002.
