Aurora borealis in Oslo

These two tourists were happy to find an installation with aurora borealis in the middle of Oslo. That saved them a trip in the winter to the north Norway!

Everyday I learn something new. I didn't know it was the Norwegian scientist Kristian Birkeland's theories of atmospheric electric currents that explained the nature of the aurora borealis. To prove his theories he invented a electromagnetic cannon and Birkeland-Eyde process of fixing nitrogen from the air. As many has experienced before him, he got ridiculed by mainstream scientists.

He was nominated for the Nobel Prize seven times.
