The big reveal
The day of the major announcement at work. The presentation streamed to several locations around the campus like it were England playing in a World Cup final. Nothing of much surprise, except the scale. Annual recurrent savings of £100 million needed, which is 25% of operating budget. Staff costs are the bulk of total costs, so that's a lot of people to shed. The VC suggested staff could get passionately involved in the real drive to reinvent the place, whilst simultaneously waiting for the individual impact! Around 11 mins later in was all over the press - Guardian, Times Higher etc.
So what now? Probably a long wait of uncertainty of what it means for us and when. NJ and I will have to take bets on who gets shot first!
