Toes Up

Alas, poor blackbird. He was under the bay bush surrounded by feathers, but I couldn’t find an injury on him. Was he the one that kept scratching the mulch from the bulbs? Or stripping the green berries from the Coprosma bushes, reducing the number that would ripen for the waxeyes and bellbird? Or making the first holes in the crab apples for other birds to exploit? If he was then I suspect that he will soon be replaced by another.
