Gooderstone & Oxburgh Hall

(Backblip)

Terrible weather was forecast from 3:00 onwards today, so we got out as early as we could! First stop was a nice little water garden at Gooderstone. It was pretty small but nice, with a remarkable number of flowers in bloom for the time of year. Much better than Mannington from that point of view! It was all ran by a nice lady with an authentic Norfolk accent, one of the first we've actually heard up here.

We went to Oxburgh Hall for lunch and the afternoon, having heard nothing of the insides of the place. In typical National Trust fashion they managed not to promote it properly at all! The inside was actually pretty amazing and extensive. Loads of historic stuff including tooled leather wallpaper, a priest hole, and a number of things we haven't seen in other places! The only downside was no photography allowed inside the house. I hate it when they do that. There wasn't even a good reason, they allowed photography without flash in ALL the other indoor areas on the estate.

The heavens did open soon after 3:00 as forecast (MET Office gets a cookie!) so we were glad we got just about everything squeezed in before then.
