Glacier Bay

H and his brother T who arranged this lovely week in Alaska.  So it's the fathers for Father's Day today.  Spent 8 hours on a boat in Glacier Bay and the day got better and better.   This is blue sky on the glacier that is 65 miles up the bay from the place where the park headquarters is that was covered with ice in 1750 ( causing the indigenous inhabitants from here to leave).  It was interesting to see how the landscape recovers as we moved from forests to just lichen covered rock the closer to the top we got.   It was also impressive how captain Vancouver accurately mapped the area in the 1700s and John Muir a century later found the glacier receded but it reinforced his theory about canyons being formed from Ice. ( like his favorite Yosemite).  We did see whales, lots of birds including those darling puffins, mountain goats on the rocks.  Sea otters and a huge colony of sea lions.   It was a spectacular day .. tomorrow we are off to Scagway .
Extra: the 4 of us in sunny Alaska .. beautiful glacier Bay ..
