Second attempt - Belem

After the failed attempt yesterday for our trip along the Tegus in the No 15 tram we made sure we were there early, like 9am, to avoid the scrum at 11am that was yesterday. We wandered down the hill through quiet streets feeling the heat rising even though it was on,y 830!

We went for breakfast to a Cafe in the Commercio, but wasn't a patch on our local. Not as friendly either.

The early tram was quiet and even got a seat for the 15 min journey to Belem. There wasn't much of a queue either at the famous bakery, which is open till 11 at night selling these wonderful pastries. Still warm, as tradition we headed to the statue overlooking the Tagus to sit and eat them overlooking the river and across to the Christ the King statue where we had walked to the other day.

Had a laugh at the frantic picture taking by the camera crazy Chinese tourists, having to get every angle, any shot and multitude of selfies in the 10 mins before their tour guide hurries them away!

We wandered along the front to the Belem tower and stopped for a coffee in the shade then headed down the waterfront again to the new MAAT Museum opened last year. Amazing futuristic design and can walk on the roof!

We got the tram back to Lisbon around 1pm and stopped once again at the Time Out Market for some food and after food we had the most amazing ice cream, best I've ever had I would say.

Decided to walk back to Alfma by the riverside past Commercio, lots of music playing along the way and thought we would pop into the Cafe to say goodbye to the guys but it was closed! Walked along to another Cafe for homemade lemonade, so refreshing in this heat. When we walked back to the apartment the guys were unloading their car so we said our farewells and then we got ready for our last meal in Lisbon, which turned out to be the worst of the holiday unfortunately!

Never mind, the good ones were plentiful. Home to pack......
