Over the Bridge to Skye

We are here - just about to drive over this bridge to Skye.
In days gone by the only way to access Skye was by ferry.  This became unsustainable in the late 1980s and it was decided to build a bridge linking Skye with mainland Scotland.
Construction began in 1992 and the bridge was opened on 16 October 1995. Initially a toll bridge - and a very expensive one at that - mass protests resulted in it becoming toll free in 2004.  Ironically all bridge tolls in Scotland were abolished in 2008.
We have arrived on a wonderfully warm and sunny day - we hope it continues :-)
