Sports Day

It is so rarely now that we get to see school activities in which the grandchildren are involved, so we were delighted that we could make it to the Sports Day this year. And what a great day it was. A real fun occasion, with a large attendance of parents and grandparents. The weather was perfect, sunny, but not too hot and a breeze. Every child had a turn at several activities and it was so well organised – it is a small school, which does make it easier. It also makes for a really friendly atmosphere, with the older ones cheering on the younger ones. It all took place in the morning and then children joined families for picnics.

I rarely do collages, but decided that I had to include all three in this picture. So, here is the older one in a relay race, the middle one running hard in her own race and finally the youngest cheering away . . . but who was she cheering? Her Mum who was taking part in the Mum’s Race.

After lunch the children could decide whether to stay at school for the afternoon or go home with parents. Our oldest granddaughter wanted to come back with us and we three went to another English Heritage site – Down House, the home of Charles Darwin, a place that just happens to be close to where the family live. Another fascinating place, which we all enjoyed. A trail was completed and afternoon tea was taken.

We then took the children out to a wonderful local Chinese restaurant. Now we are baby-sitting and all seems to be quiet.

It all starts again in the morning.
